So I was doing a quest for the Thieves Guild,

Spoiler:

and when I entered the

Spoiler:

my follower Janessa was missing. I had previously set her to essential, so I was pretty sure she wasn't dead. After completing the quest I waited a few times and fast traveled to no avail. Eventually I used player.moveto E1BA9 to teleport myself to her location.

Well guess where she was? Locked up in Dragon's Reach! And we had just been near the docks in Solitude. When I talked to her in the cell she acted as though nothing was out of the ordinary. In the cell with her was a dead naked male bandit with blood all over the floor (don't mess with Janessa UESP Forums • View topic (7) ). We quietly picked our way out of the cell and snuck out the back.

All is back to normal now, but I have NO idea why she ended up in Jail, and in Whiterun no less. I did have a 5 septim bounty on my head in Solitude for trespassing, but I think we were clear in Whiterun. I certainly was never confronted by the guards.

Has anyone else had their followers mysteriously end up in prison? If I waited long enough would she have been released from jail? She was still in the scaled armor garb I gave her

The dead body is there over the grate to point out the obvious escape route. Anyway I have no idea how this happened lol

I didn't realize anyone other than you could be sent to jail, barring specific quest requirements.

My guess would be he\she some how got stuck in it, after all even when you free prisions in game they stay in their cells so he was not "in jail" that way.

I got out by picking the lock on the door into the hallway. Not only had I not been down in the dragonsreach dungeon (I don't think *ever* in this playthrough), but she was locked in there. It was without a doubt not a case of the follower getting stuck while following me. Like I mentioned, we were in Solitude when she disappeared and I found her locked up in the dragons reach dungeon in Whiterun.

Yes, but prisnoers do not MOVE form the cell when the door opens, she was not really "in jail"
somethign else happen, the cells are always locked even when no one is in them.

It could be like in oblivion, when Npcs got "lost" they wnet somewhere, this could be it

Not sure what happen but she was
NOT in jail, its not a normal game play thing 9mod can add it I guess)
